New Discoveries

Over the years Guy has discovered many fossil animals that were previously unknown to science. These fossils include Cambrian and Lower Ordovician, multi-plated mollusks, Gastropods and Monoplacophorans. Guys wife Doris has just had a new species of fossil mollusk named after her, called Matthevia dorisae. John Pojeta of the Smithsonian Institution is presently working with Guy on these new fossils. A series of papers describing these fossils are being submitted to the Journal of Paleontology for publication.

Among the fossil animals that Guy has discovered is a new species of primitive mollusk called a Monoplacophoran. This picture shows the shell, with pronounced undulations on the surface which are distinctive to this new species. It was found in rocks dating back nearly 500 million years.
